INDUSTRIAL ECOLOGY

Northeast Business Park is investing in world’s best practice in industrial ecology for North Harbour through the strategic advice of international expert Ernest Lowe.

What is Industrial Ecology?
Industrial ecology is an emerging holistic environmental management system. It views industrial systems as interdependent ecosystems and seeks to optimise the flows of energy, material and waste by identifying and supporting synergies between the organisations within that system.

Who is Ernest Lowe?
Ernest Lowe is the Chief Executive Officer of Indigo Development, based in California. Mr Lowe has extensive experience in developing and implementing industrial ecology initiatives, and holds the position of Eco-Industrial and Rural Development Director of the International Centre for Sustainable Development in Maryland, USA. He is also an Associate of the Environmental Education Media Project in Beijing and a strategic planning consultant for eco-industrial park developments across the United States and Asia.

In 2007, the Queensland Government’s Environmental Protection Agency invited Mr Lowe to provide the keynote address, Greening the park: Creating a regional hub for resource efficiency, for the Ecobiz Industrial Ecology Forum on 31 October.
