Equity Employment and Training Advisory Group

The Caboolture Morayfield region is one of the fastest growing in Queensland and has also been identified as a Priority Employment Area by the Federal Government. As the economy continues to recover and jobs either re-emerge or are created, strategic employment training and support programs become a vital part of sustainable community growth. When they are designed as part of a region’s employment strategy, they ensure that residents who are most vulnerable in terms of employment have every opportunity to take advantage of economic growth.

North Harbour will provide local job opportunities that target the most disadvantaged in the community as well as encouraging investment into the region to support sustainable job creation. The project’s landowner and developer, Northeast Business Park, has formed an Equity Employment and Training Advisory Group to support proactive and targeted local employment and training. Opportunity for equitable participation in the employment opportunities arising from North Harbour is a key feature of the project’s creation. Northeast Business Park has partnered with CADET Training and Employment to ensure that local employment and training needs are best addressed.

CADET was established in 1977 as a not-for-profit, community based organisation that provides a wide range of employment and training services to cover all ages from 13 through to retirement. They provide a job network, group training, training college and youth pathways.

With Northeast Business Park’s support, CADET has been involved in:

  • The community engagement process for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
  • A partnership with Construction Skills Queensland to provide construction skills training for more than 50 disadvantaged local community members
  • Attracting Federal Government funding of $67,000 in 2008 to develop a strategy to maximise indigenous employment specifically in relation to North Harbour - announcement by Jon Sullivan MP, Member for Longman

Northeast Business Park has also commissioned The Hornery Institute to support CADET in attracting Federal Government funding of $592,000 for its Sunshine Coast Civil Skills Project which will provide 128 training positions including 64 traineeships and, therefore, candidates for North Harbour. It has also successfully received funding of $140,000 for a specific Civil Skills program funded by the State Government based on potential employment opportunities for North Harbour.
