New eco-development announced for the Sunshine Coast

25 October 2010

Northeast Business Park is planning to build a large-scale environmental tourism park to accommodate holiday makers on the Sunshine Coast.

Plans for the 250 hectare eco-park at Verrierdale, 15 minutes from Noosa, include 70 self-contained cabins, 80 caravan sites and the re-vegetation of a large parcel of land.

Northeast Business Park’s Jeff Smith said the Cockatoos’ Hollow eco-project would feature renewable energy, energy efficient building design and recycled building materials.

“We are excited to put forward such an eco-friendly tourist accommodation proposal in an area of rich environmental assets,” Mr Smith said.

Mr Smith said the eco-park will retain more than 200 hectares of land for environmental purposes, including part of the site used as former sugar cane land.

“The eco-park sits in a rural setting that we believe will create a diverse holiday spot that will afford extensive walking trails and outdoor activities such as bird watching.”

The Doonan Creek area has significant rare vegetation and is home to more than a hundred bird species.

The project seeks to provide short term accommodation for up to 300 people.

Lodgement of the development application is expected in the coming weeks.
