Residents Supports North Harbour 9 April 2010
Local residents are lending vocal support to North Harbour in reaction to Moreton Bay Regional Council’s refusal of the project’s marina and residential components. The residents are concerned that the benefits to employment, the environment and sustainable growth within the Moreton Bay region may be lost due council opposition to the project. A range of residents have voiced their enthusiasm for the project on the North Harbour website. Among them is Brian Ming, who lives on acreage at Bradford Road, who believes the project would be good for the local environment. Mr Ming says in the last two years he has watched fish die, the river silt up and water quality in the Caboolture River deteriorate. “The river couldn’t be worse, and North Harbour could make a real difference to the area,” he said. “We have housing developments being approved throughout the Moreton Bay region with no job creation, but North Harbour offered good long term jobs.” Dean Patterson, a recent arrival in the district eager to be part of the North Harbour vision, has urged the community to continue to lobby their local councillors. “Everyone I speak to wants it to happen, because it means jobs in the local area and I certainly don’t see any environmental groups voicing concern,” Mr Patterson said. | |
