MEDIA RELEASE
Government endorses Northeast Business Park as marina development site 12 May 2011 The proposed North Harbour marina, a component of the Northeast Business Park site, has been designated as a Marine Development Area under the recently revised Queensland Government coastal management plan. The Department of Environment and Resource Management plan designates the proposed North Harbour site suitable for medium to large scale maritime infrastructure. It puts the North Harbour marina in the same category as Sanctuary Cove Marina, the Port of Airlie and the Brisbane Cruise Ship terminal. Northeast Business Park CEO Jeff Smith said the coastal management plan recognised the suitability and strategic importance of the North Harbour site to marine industry in Queensland. "The Coastal Management Plan has always been an important consideration in our planning. The new designation provides greater certainty for proponents for maritime development and it protects these areas from non-coastal dependent development,” he said. The plan outlines the proposed North Harbour site as suitable for medium to large scale maritime infrastructure. -Ends -
